Turrill, Dixon wed

Submitted photo
Kimberly Nicole Turrill and Simon Richard Dixon were united in marriage at four o'clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Truett Memorial First Baptist Church in Hayesville. Pastor Greg Carroll officiated the ceremony.

The bride and groom created a ceremony that reflected their personalities, their religious beliefs and their love for one another. One of the most personal aspects of the marriage celebration was the rose ceremony, in which Pastor Carroll used the metaphor of roses to discuss the importance of love, support, and affection in a marriage, and the bride and groom exchanged roses and promised to uphold these ideals.

During the wedding ceremony, Kim Poe of Charlotte, N.C., and Shal Francis of Los Angeles, Calif., friends of the bride and groom, sang pieces chosen by the couple for the occasion.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miky Turrill of Warne. She is the granddaughter of Clara Wellham of Hayesville and Joan Turrill of Gainesville, Fla.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rickie Dixon of Hayesville. He is the grandson of Jim and Betty Hill of Mount Airy, Ga., and Gloria Dixon and the late Paul Dixon of Snellville, Ga.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.

Jessica Wikstrom of Warne, friend of the bride, was the Maid of Honor. Hannah Stang and Jenny Martin Sabin, from central North Carolina, and Rachel Dewitt, from South Dakota, friends of the bride, were the bridesmaids. The women wore rose colored full-length satin strapless side-ruched ballgowns adorned with rhinestone brooches. Each carried a matching nosegay bouquet of dark and light pink roses and white freesia. The floral arrangements were created by Sherry Ledford of Young Harris Florist. Zakaree Evans, cousin of the bride, was the bell ringer.

Andrew Wallace, friend of the groom from Manhattan, was the Best Man. Matthew Emery of Raleigh, N.C., Ryan Morgan of Charlottesville, Va., and Adam Durity, also from Manhattan, friends of the groom, were the groomsmen.

The bride wore a Cinderella-style embroidery upon tulle, white, strapless full-length wedding dress. The ball gown, created by designer Mori Lee, was embellished with a crystal beaded, embroidered drop-waist bodice, and adorned with a dainty waistline bow belt. The gown's skirt fashioned a chapel length train which harmonized with the bride's chapel length veil and crystal tiara. The finishing touches were put upon the bride's ensemble as she carried a nosegay bouquet of white and light pink roses, white freesia, and white stephanotis, the traditional wedding flower.

The wedding was directed by Dr. Patricia Slagle of Hayesville. Mrs. Kelly Hilton, cousin of the bride, also of Hayesville, kept the guestbook. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held at Enrico's Lakeview Restaurant, in Hiawassee, Ga., and was hosted by the parents of the groom, Rickie and Mary Dixon.

The reception, hosted by the parents of the bride, Miky and Wanda Turrill, was held at The Ballroom, in Murphy. The chandelier and candlelit hall was decorated with table-top topiaries and flower wreathes. The cake, made by Patty Cakes in Franklin, North Carolina, was a white three-tiered cake with pink filigree and fresh flowers. After dinner and cake, the bride and groom rl~nced the night away with their friends and family before leaving for their honeymoon. On the way to the limousine, guests celebrated the couple's union by lighting the bride and groom's path with sparklers.

The couple spent their honeymoon cruising the western Caribbean upon the Carnival ship, Miracle. On their trip, the couple swam with dolphins, relaxed on the beach, and went cave-tubing through the rainforests of Belize.

Upon returning to Hayesville, the newlyweds began settling into their new home in Shooting Creek. Kimberly teaches Kindergarten at Hayesville Elementary School, and Simon works at the Bank of Hiawassee, in Hiawassee, Ga., while pursuing his Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
