Marvin Edgar Canup

Cl ay County native, 21-year U.S. Army veteran

Marvin Edgar Canup, age 77, of Fires Creek Road, Hayesville, NC passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, NC and was of the Baptist faith.

Marvin retired after 21 years service in the U. S. Army. He was a veteran of both the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. After retiring from the Army, he worked at Bakers Furniture, Clifton Precision and Peachtree Products. He was lifetime member of the Clay V. W. Post #6812. Also, a member of Clay County Rescue Squad and the Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department. His hobby was fishing.

Marvin was a son of the late Richmond Pearson and Eliza Ann Hicks Canup and was preceded in death by three brothers, Grady Canup, Blaine Canup and Ray Canup; and two sisters, Ellavee McCray and Pearl Monkus. Marvin is survived by his wife, Louise Hall Canup; four sons, Melvin Canup, Gary Canup and wife Missy, Randy Canup and wife Donna and Darryl Canup and wife Tammie all of Hayesville, NC; two daughters, Sue Canup of Hayesville, NC and Priscilla Phillips and husband Norman of Murphy, NC; two brothers, Gene Canup of Doraville, Georgia and Kenneth Canup and wife Young of Georgia; two sisters, Inez McCray and Ruby Monkus both of Hayesville, NC; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services

were held at 2

p.m., Thursday,

Nov. 16, 2006 at the

Fires Creek Baptist

Church in Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Dallas Crowder officiated.

Interment was in the Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Military graveside rites conducted by Veterans Organizations: Murphy V. F. W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96, D. A. V. Chapter #73 and Clay County V. F. W. Post #6812. Pallbearers were Shane Fuller, Casey Canup, Derick Canup, Dustin Phillips, Kerbin Garcia and Nate Hicks.

The family received friends from noon until 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 at the Fires Creek Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of Marvin Edgar Canup to the Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Candy Kirby, 61 Roach Cove Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.
