100 azaleas now grace Tri-County campus

L-R Early College students Michael Mote, Justin Hopkins, Nathan Vogler, Shawn Trull, Kevin Enloe, and Ashley Kephart do their part for a beautiful community by planting azaleas outside the school.
Tri-County Community College recently received 100 azaleas as a part of NC Beautiful's 21st Annual Azalea Celebration to use for campus beautification.

The program promotes environmental education, beautification and stewardship. In 2009 the college will be eligible for the A.J. Fletcher Award if the azaleas have been well-maintained. The winner will receive $500; 100 more azaleas and a plaque; second place $250, 50 azaleas and a plaque; and third place $125, 25 azaleas and a plaque.

The TCCC maintenance department planted the azaleas around the Main Campus but when it came to the Early College High school, students Michael Mote, Justin Hopkins, Nathan Vogler, Shawn Trull, Kevin Enloe, and Ashley Kephart did the digging.

"In appreciation to the welcoming partnership, Tri-County Early College students were happy to have an opportunity to give back to Tri-County Community College by helping to plant the azaleas on the TCCC campus," said Sue Ledford, principal of the Early College.

"One component of the Learn and Earn Grant, under which Tri-County Early College operates, is to provide the students opportunities for community service. This project allowed the Early College students a chance to help beautify their campus."

College President Dr. Norman Oglesby picked up the plants in Raleigh.
