From the porch
Face the truth about radical Islam
Dwight Otwell

About a month ago, I received a vehement email in response to a Letter to the Editor that appeared in the October 25 Sentinel from John R. Cassady, LTC U.S. Army (Ret.).

The writer called Cassady a war monger because Cassady wrote about the growing threat of radical Islam.

"This is the same type of hatred spewed at Black people in this country before and during the hey day of Jim Crow," wrote the writer.

He said Cassady's letter is full of prejudice, bigotry and lacking knowledge and stated that it inspires hate crimes.

I don't know how the writer failed to note that each time Cassady referred to Islam, he referred to radical Islam, not mainstream Islam.

Cassady pointed out that radical Islam's goal is the destruction of America, Israel and UK (the West) and world domination under their twisted version of Islamic law.

"The extremists are a product of years of exposure to continuous preaching and teaching of hatred," Cassady wrote. "Years of indoctrination produces a culture of hatred and inhuman monsters.

"Today, the extremists' warped clerics preach and teach their followers that great rewards await them in paradise for murder and mayhem against innocent men, women and children (unbelievers) in the name of Allah."

Cassady went on to talk about the mindset of

radical Islam.

"To them, we're infidels. They're not interested in talking or negotiating," Cassady wrote. "They clearly want us eliminated."

I don't know how the writer of the e-mail could come to the conclusion that Cassady's writing is bigoted. Maybe the writer has trouble with reading comprehension.

But perhaps he is an extremist at political correctness. I understand and I believe, from what Cassady wrote, that he understands that there are many peaceful Muslims who tolerate people who believe differently than them in this country and in the hotspots of Iraq, Iran and other Muslim countries.

However, the e-mail writer seems to be completely blind to the truth that extremist Muslims are the greatest bigots we have faced in this generation. They apparently have no moral qualms about killing people who don't agree with them. Given the chance, they would place women in a slave-like servitude and they would torture and slaughter Christians, agnostics and atheists if they don't convert to their brand of Islam.

The only thing that stops them is people (countries) that stand up to them.

In WWII we turned our eyes away from what the Nazis were really doing until we were forced to fight them.

I don't propose that we start wars with Muslim states. But we had sure better face the truth about radical Islam's intentions and actions.
