Christmas Cantata

The Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church, Hayesville, will present a cantata for Advent and Christmas, “Ceremony of Candles” by Joseph M. Martin. The cantada will be presented on Sunday, December 17, at 7 p.m. in the Church sanctuary, under the direction of Marcia T. Powell, Choir Director. Solo parts will be sung by Connie Allen and Clair Decker, with narration done by Bob Barker.

There will be a pre-program presentation by the Church’s Handbell Choir, led by Carol Grable, and a special organ prelude by Wanda P. Galloway, organist. Following the service those, attending are invited to a reception in The Gathering Place, honoring Wanda Galloway, organist, who is retiring from her position as Church Organist on December 31.

The public is invited to attend this service of celebration of the birth of Jesus with “Ceremony of Candles,” a cantada filled with the wonder and light of Christmas. This imaginative new work uses carols and candlelight to embody the hope of Christ.
