Jacket wrestlers beat Murphy, fall to Fannin Co. Hayesville High School wrestlers came away from last Tuesday's three-way meet with a team victory against Smoky Mountain Conference foe Murphy and a loss to Fannin County, Ga. In the Murphy matches, six Yellow Jacket wrestlers won by pinning their opponents, earning sox team points. Two wrestlers, Sam Lusty in the 112-pound class, and Justin Guffey in the 125-pound class, earned six points each due to forfeits. Tyler Marcoux, in the 119-pound class, started off the Hayesville scoring, pinning his Murphy opponent in just 44 seconds. Kyle Lickteig, wrestling in the 135-pound class, earned a pin in a hard-fought match that went nearly 3 minutes. In the 140-pound class, Hayesville's Tim Shaffer took about a minute to pin his opponent, earning another 6 team points. Kevin McCreary of Haysville took a minute and a half to pin his opponent in the 152-pound class. Tommy Kelly also earned a pin in the 189- pound class with a 4-minute victory. And Tyler Benson, wrestling at 215 pounds, pinned his Murphy opponent in a 3-minute match. Those victories led the Yellow Jackets to a 48-36 team victory over Murphy High. Against Fannin County High School, however, it was a different matter. Seven Yellow Jackets won their matches, one by a decision. Tyler Marcoux pinned his Fannin County opponent just before the end of their 6-minute contest; Shawn Duvall, wrestling in the 130- pound class, pinned his opponent in just under one minute on the mat. In the 135-pound class, Kyle Lickteig pinned his opponent after just over 4 minutes, while Tim Shaffer, in the 140-pound class, emerged with a 16-5 decision - and 4 points for the team score. In exhibition matches that did not carry any team points, Ricky Narum, Matt Radazzo and Tyler Benson all scored pins.
When the dust settled, Fannin County had grappled its way to a 45-21 team victory over Hayesville.
