Letters to the Editor Thanks for a great HMS choral concert To the Editor: Way back in 1947, 12 years before I was born, Hollywood put together a movie, that, every Christmas, I anticipate being able to watch. To me, it was up there with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, It’s a Wonderful Life, or Miracle on 34th Street. In “The Bishop’s Wife,” it always amazed me how they got all those children to sing, stay on key, and sound good all at the same time. I sort of figured they had a platoon of special forces standing just off camera keeping those in line. Well, Tuesday night (two weeks ago) in the Auditorium at Hayesville Middle School, I got to see first-hand the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade chorus sing. Man, I couldn’t believe my ears. Those kids were good, and I could tell they wanted to make a good impression to their family and friends. Not only are these children talented, they followed direction — and with a bunch of 10-14-year-old kids, that in itself is an accomplishment. You know, I don’t remember seeing that platoon of special forces standing offstage, ready to jump at a moment’s notice. What I did see was two music teachers who worked very hard to bring together a performance that, in my book, rated right up there with the Mitchell Boys Choir from “The Bishop’s Wife.” So Thank You Very Much, Ms. Cope and Mrs. Setzer for the great work that you have done with our kids, because my family and I enjoyed it! — Ricky Rogers (Trey’s Dad)
Editor’s Note: The High School concert the following week was excellent as well! Thanks to our young singers and their teachers.
