John Rice, Pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville, invites the community to celebrate the coming of the Christ child throughout the 12 days of Christmas and into the New Year. Two beautiful candlelight services with Holy Eucharist will be held on Christmas Eve, one at 5 p.m. and another at 10 p.m. The 5 o’clock service is especially designed for children and their families. On Sunday, Christmas Day, there will be one service only, also with Holy Eucharist, at 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, December 31, both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services will include special Lessons and Carols. This service helps to celebrate the meaning of the Christmas Season — the birth of Baby Jesus. The first reading reminds us of the human struggle in being obedient to God. The lessons then focus on the coming of the Messiah as told through the prophet Isaiah and announced by the angel Gabriel to Mary. The service concludes with the proclamation that Jesus is the light of the world, and that we move from darkness to light through Him, our Lord and Savior. Good Shepherd extends God’s blessings and best wishes to all during this holy season.
