Search yields drug arrests
By Bob Williams

A search of a home in the Eagle Fork community over the Christmas holidays turned out to be very productive for Clay County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Multiple Agency Narcotics Unit.

Clay County Sheriff Joe Shook and Derrick Palmer of the Narcotics Unit told reporters Tuesday that officers executed a search warrant at 2005 Eagle Fork Road in Warne on Friday, Dec. 29 after an investigation that stemmed from citizen complaints and other information about possible illegal activity at the residence.

In the raid, officers siezed a quantity of marijuana; paraphenalia, such as rolling papers, digital scales and other miscellaneous items; a number of firearms, money and untaxed liquor.

As a result of the search, John Moss, 31, the home’s resident, was arrested and charged with Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substance; Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance (marijuana); and possession of drug paraphenalia.

Investigators say their probe is ongoing and other charges could be pending.

After the search, investigators decided to set up a vehicle check point in the area. The check point yielded two arrests for underage drinking and two drug arrests.

Officers reported stopping an older model Buick at the check point driven by Frank Gillespie, 53, also of Eagle Fork Road in Warne.

Reports alledge Gillespie was “nervous and evasive” in answering routine questions, so deputies asked him to step out of the car. When he did, officers alledge the driver attempted to throw items from his pocket into the woods.

Deputies found the items: a small quantity of methamphetamine and glass smoking pipes.

Gillespie was charged with Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance; Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (methamphetamine); Possession of Drug Paraphenalia; and Resisting a Public Officer While Discharging His Duties.

In a separate stop, officers at the check point also arrested a second driver, identified by Narcotics Unit officers as Sequoya The Aquarian, no date of birth given, of 212 Cold Branch Road, after deputies allegedly found a small quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphenalia.

He was charged with Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance; Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (methamphetamine); and Possession of Drug Paraphenalia.

In an unrelated case, Clay County Deputies and members of the Multiple Agency Narcotics Unit carried out a search warrant on Dec. 29 at 504 West Gum Log Road in Warne, that resulted in one arrest.

Officers allegedly discovered a quantity of marijuana and paraphenalia used for the manufacture of marijuana. The siezure included packaged marijuana for personal use and about seven small growing marijuana plants.

The search grew out of a report from a citizen that there was illegal activity at the residence.

Officers charged Jeremiah Camphouse, 26, with Manufacturing Marijuana; Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substance; and Possession of Drug Paraphenalia.
