Joan A. Raymond Illinois native, longtime Hayesville resident
She graduated from Northwestern University where she met (Al) Alwyn Raymond. They married in Ft. Lauderdale, FL., in 1933 and lived there until they retired to Hayesville in 1977. She was a active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ft.. Lauderdale and later in Truett Memorial First Baptist Church of Hayesville. She enjoyed volunteer teaching in Child Evangelism fellowship. She told flannel graph board Bible stories to thousands of children including surrounding county schools through the years. She enjoyed playing the piano for the residents in several local nursing homes as well as visiting many shut-ins. She served as an officer in numerous charitable and advocacy organizations throughout her life. She always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone with whom she came in contact. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Al Raymond; a daughter Suzanne (Sue) Wood; brother Frank Allin and sister Corrine Allinsmith. She is survived by one son; William (Bill) Raymond of Ft. Lauderdale, FLand one daughter; Jane Raymond Bresnihan of Hayesville, NC; eight grandchildren, Jill Bresnihan Kromis and Julie Bresnihan of Hayesville, NC, Donovan Raymond and Dana Raymond of Florida, Karl Wood of California, Chad, Steve, and Kevin Wood of Texas and six greatg r a n d c h i l d r e n , Kaden Kromis of Hayesville, Coral Raymond of Florida, Joshua, Ryan, Kayla, and Adam Wood of Texas. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC with Rev. Johnny Foster, Rev. Chester Jones, and Pastor Greg Carroll officiating. Interment was in the Union Hill Cemetery in Hayesville, NC. Pallbearers were Fred Kromis, Jeb Greenstone, Donovan Raymond, Fred Jackson, and Kenneth Burch. The family received friends on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made In Memory of Joan A.
