Brasstown Concert Assoc. to hold event

Elise Witt and Mick Kinney in concert Sunday, Feb. 11, 3 p.m. with local, global and homemade songs, presented by Brasstown Concert Association.

The concert will be held in the Community Room, Keith House, at John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC.

Prose Workshop meets at Tri-County

The Prose Workshop with critique session sponsored by North Carolina Writers' Network West will meet Thursday, January 11, 7-9 p.m., at Tri-County Community College, McSwain Building (conference room), Murphy, NC. Writers for Children Workshop

The Writing for Children workshop will meet Wednesday, January 17, 2007 from 10:00 am to 12 noon at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville, NC. The group meets regularly on the third Wednesday of the month. The focus of the workshop is poetry and stories for children and young adults. Support and advice is offered to writers. TCCC to offer EMT basic classes Jan 16

Tri-County Community College will be offering EMT Basic classes beginning on Tuesday, January 16.

The classes will be held Monday through Wednesday nights from 6 - 10 p.m. at the Main Campus.

TCCC to help students with FAFSA forms

Tri-County Community College is participating in FAFSA Day 2007 on February 17, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Financial aid officers will be available to help students and their families complete and submit their FAFSA forms.

2006 W2 forms and/or tax returns for both students and parents are required to complete the FAFSA. Main Campus. Call 835- 4220 for more information.

Learn to weld at Tri-County College

TCCC is offering a Saturday welding class beginning January 20. This class is for beginning and intermediate students who wish to learn basic welding, MIG, TIG, and/or SIG. Classes are from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the Main Campus from January 20- May 5. Cost is $70.30 plus materials. For more information call 835-4230 or 835-4313.

Program on forestrelated concerns set

Clay County Cooperative Extension will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, January 16th, 7 p.m., concerning issues dealing with the southern pine beetle, hemlock wooly adelgid, as well as, the pruning of hazardous trees in the landscape. Speakers will include representatives from the NC Forest Service and the Extension Service. The program will take place in the Community Services Building. Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association unveils calendar

This year they offer " The Classics", a program for home schooled children and parents, a first in BRMAA's history. Classes in Drawing: basic and still life, Sculpture: handbuilding with clay, Painting: watercolor and acrylic will run monthly starting Thursday, January 11th, 2007. Cost for a 4 week program starts at $ 50.

BRMAA's "Kids After School Winter Art Schedule" will begin Tuesday, January 16th, 2007. For ages 5 -8, classes are offered in Sculpture, Drawing, Painting, Nature Crafts and Creative Movement, for ages 9 -13, classes in Elf and Fairy Houses, Mosaics, Hip-Hop and Sculpture are free with a supply fee of $ 20. After school class times are: 4:00 -5:30 except for dance classes.

Watershed Coalition Board to meet Jan. 11

The Board of Directors of the Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition will meet at the Peachtree Restaurant (NC) on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. for dinner. The meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to stop by the Coalition office for more information about our programs or membership. Free health seminar

A free health seminar will be presented on Managing Oxygen and Glucose. Oxygen and glucose are two essential substances for our body. But there is a "dark" side to both of them. How well you manage oxygen and glucose can predict your long term quality of life. Come hear how you can improve your management of these two critical substances based on recent scientific research.

The seminar will be at the Blairsville Better Living Center at 1325 Watkins Road, Blairsville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday January 18, 2007 and will be conducted by Johanne Kittle, the Director of the Better Living Center and a PhD candidate.

Healthy refreshments with recipes will be served for your tasting after the presentation. This seminar is the first in a monthly series to be presented at the center.

DAR chapter to meet

The January meeting of the DAR Chapter will be held at Crossroads Restaurant in Hiawassee, GA Saturday, January 13, 2007, at 10 a.m.. Luncheon cost is $10.

The speaker, Dan Hollifield, an Eastern Band GA Cherokee, will present the program, "American Indians Living in our Midst." Marian Malac will give the American Indian Minute. Hostesses are Wanda Hoffmann and Mary Kathryn West.

Free WRAP classes offered in Clay Co.

Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville Office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life.

WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education, and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness. There is HOPE for a better life! Free Diabetes classes offered at Library

Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 pm, diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions, and meters
