Concert at Peacock Playhouse on Saturday

Loren (Mike) Whitney
Who would have guessed, back in 1964, the year The Beatles inspired Loren (Mike) Whitney to pick up his first guitar, that one day he would write and play his own songs?

Who would have guessed that the whiz-kid from the mid-west would grow up to chart lyrics and music in a truly unique blend of storytelling, emotion and rhythm, transporting his audience from the everyday to a world of freeflowing song?

Somewhere along that musical metamorphosis, he would drop the Loren and just be,like, Mike; Mike Whitney, that is.

From gigs in Cincinnati, Atlanta and Houston, a 26-state road trip, and TV and radio appearances, to right here in Hayesville, North Carolina, where he seems to have found his true compass heading, Mike Whitney has written, played and performed his musical magic. Not only a one-of-a-kind lyricist, he also handles the business end of a guitar with fluidity and style.

Take a thimbleful of Lightfoot, add a splash of Lovett, a dash of Redbone and a pinch of urban folk; ten fingers and a mouthful of nonformulated, unhydrogenated, highly unsaturated words and music, "shaken not stirred," and you'll have the musical libation that is refreshingly, Mike Whitney. Enjoy!

Mike Whitney will perform this Saturday night, January 13, at the Peacock Playhouse.

"An Evening with Mike," will start at 7 p.m. and is the first in the Winter Concert Series to be held at the Peacock.

The event is a fundraiser for the Playhouse and if you haven't purchased your tickets in advance, tickets will be available at the door.
