Kleinpeter to direct On Golden Pond On Golden Pond will open the 2007 season of the Licklog Players at the Peacock Playhouse in H a y e s v i l l e . P o p u l a r directorEdie Kleinpeter will direct this warm and funny play about family relationships. Seventy-nine year old Norman Thayer and his spunky wife, Ethel, arrive to spend what they think will be their last summer at their cottage in Maine. When Ethel says they are middle aged, Norman, a lovable curmudgeon, says they are not, because people don't live to 150. Things get really interesting when estranged daughter, Chelsea, arrives with a surprise. She has come to drop off her boyfriend's 13-year-old troubled son while they go to Europe. Norman, who takes every opportunity to remind everyone he is not getting old gracefully, finds an unexpected new lease on life thanks to the young boy. When Chelsea returns to find Norman being the father she never had, old wounds surface, but the play draws to a conclusion that will tug at your heart while making you laugh. Ernest Thompson's popular Broadway play was turned into an Oscar winning movie with Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn, and Jane Fonda. It has recently been revived successfully on Broadway with James Earl Jones and Leslie Uggams. On Golden Pond has been presented on six continents, in 38 countries, and in 24 languages. Make plans to see this play. On Golden Pond will run March 30 through April 1 and April 6 through 8.
