Glen Love of Clay County - a love story
Sentinel photo submitted
When Glen Love retired from McDonald Douglas in 1993, he moved to Clay County and became involved with community groups and organizations focused on making Clay County a better place to live. He was the first President of the Clay County Community Revitalization Association (CCCRA) and spent weeks planting trees, restoring posts and repairing the overhangs on the Town Square. He volunteered his services and equipment to build Brasstown Community Civic Center. For the past five years, Glen has served on the Cooperative Extension Service Advisory Council. He donated property for 4-H mini gardens and each year 15 lucky kids learn to plant and grow their own vegetables. Glen sponsors a child each year for 4-H camp and mentors and employs a teenaged boy. An Outdoor Education Center was developed on four acres of property at the Clay County Schools Campus, which houses all the schools in the County Pre-K to 12th grades. It took cooperation from community agencies and volunteers, including Glen, providing hours of labor. As a Communities In Schools of Clay County volunteer Glen has offered training, consultation and technical help and supervises CIS school and community volunteers. Glen was instrumental in securing two separate grants totaling over $42,000 - one to fund boardwalk construction and another for an underpass beneath the bust county road that connects the Outdoor Center with other school buildings.
