L. Porter Long
Gaston County native, Clay County most of life

L Porter Long, age 72, of Warne, NC passed away S u n d a y , March 11, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Long was a native of Clay County, NC and a son of the late Buford Napoleon and Donnie K. Maney Long. He was a veteran of the US Army. He moved to Longview, Washington in 1959 to work in the timber industry. He retired in 1979 from Weyerhaeuser Lumber and returned to Clay County. He was an avid outdoorsman; loved to camp and fish and enjoyed riding dirt bikes. He was a member of the Clay County Masonic Lodge #301 AF and AM. He was of the Church of God faith and attended Union Hill Church. Mr. Long was preceded in death by a stepson, Tony Parker; a grandson, Daniel Long; three brothers, James Long, Paul B. Long and Billy Long; and an infant sister, Eula Mae Long.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Edith Dare Hogsed Long; a son, Danny Long of Newalla, Oklahoma; a daughter, June Long Holt of Andrews, NC; two stepsons, James "Tommy" Parker and Jimmy Parker both of Warne, NC; a stepdaughter, Martha Parker Wilson of Hayesville, NC; two brothers, Roy Dale Long and Robert Long both of Hayesville, NC; five grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2:00

P. M., Saturday,

March 17,

2007, at the Union Hill

Church. The

Rev. Ricky

Burrell and

Rev. Kiffer

Ledford officiated.

Pallbearers

were Roger Long,

Jeff Long, Jimmy Long, Richard Long, Andy Long and Vincent Cody. Randy Long will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery with Military graveside rites conducted by Veterans Organizations: Murphy V. F. W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post # 96 and D. A. V. Chapter # 73 and Clay County V. F. W. Post # 6812.

The family received friends 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, March 16, 2007 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose Sr, Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC where Mr. Long will remain until being placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made In Memory of RL Long to the Bethel Cemetery Fund, c/o Charles Parker, 769 Muskrat Creek Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.
