Rotary in Motion
Amanda Mil James, a senior at Hayesville High was recently named Student of the Month by the Lake Chatuge-Hiawassee Rotary Club at their weekly luncheon meeting at the Old Hiawassee Grill of the Ridges Restaurant. While telling a little of herself, Amanda made quite an impression on the Rotarians who listened intently to this superb athlete and scholar. Amanda is the President of Teachers of Tomorrow, a member of the basketball and softball teams, Beta Club, FCA, Foreign Language Club, chorus and was selected as 2005-06 Athlete of the Year. She was All-Conference in Basketball and softball. As her senior project she hosted the 2006 Faculty Basketball game and raised money for the Lagacy Scholarship for future teachers. When not in school Amanda likes to play sports, spend time with her siblings and parents, Derrick and Melinda Jones, as well as be active in her church, St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Church. After high school Amanda plans on attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to obtain a degree in Secondary English. She also would like to teach and become a wife and mother down the road. Of course, her favorite subject is English because it is, according to Amanda, a subject that is open to interpretation and everyone can relate to at least one piece of literature.
Amanda also hopes that the Clay County Community could support the fine arts as they deserve the recognition from the community.
