By Julie Chautin Contributing writer

Photo by Wanda Stalcup Tri-County Community College students visited the Cherokee County Historical Museum in January to study and sketch local artifacts. The Cherokee County Historical Museum, with its treasure trove of artifacts, is a favorite place for Professor Billy Ray Palmer to take his students.

The Tri County Community College teacher brought an archaeology class to the museum in January. For many of the students it was their first visit, and museum director Wanda Stalcup gave them a tour.

Then each student worked on a sketch of one of the museum's artifacts to use in a research paper, the same way an archaeologist would work in the field.
