Ruth L. Ledford
Ruth L. Ledford, age 82, of Hayesville, NC died Friday March 30, 2007 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, NC; she was the daughter of the late Barnett and Ruth Tanner Ledford. She loved being in the mountains and was a member of the Tusquittee Church of God. Ruth was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and quilting. "Never Grow Old" was her favorite song. The true meaning of this song rang true for her on Christopher Ray Hagberg 27, of Hayesville NC and Stacy Nicole Anders 25, of Hayesville NC were married on March 26, 2007. March 30, 2007. Surrounded by all of her children, Ruth stepped through the doors of Glory into her new home. As her children's tears fell, their mother's tears were wiped away by the hand of God. All eight of her children lived within a three mile radius of their mother; this speaks volumes in the hustle and bustle world we live in today. What was it about this woman that drew not only her children but countless others to her? Perhaps the spark in her eyes or the way she embraced you with love or even the little giggle she had that made you smile. Regardless of the reason, this lady certainly held the secret for keeping her family close. Ruth was a deep well of refreshing water that spilled out on this world; giving life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From her now springs forth a lineage of love, courage, perseverance and faith. In the last few months of her life, Ruth was faced with the hardship that countless have faced before. Old age sometimes brings of dementia and memory loss. Sometimes it feels as though we lose our loved ones before they are really gone. The important thing for all of us to remember is that old age will come to us also if allowed. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Cline "Skinny" Ledford; one brother, Ethen Ledford; two grandsons, Reece Penland and Jason Dyer and one great-granddaughter, Savana Burch. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Larry and Patsy Ledford, Rev. Curtis and Roberta Ledford and William Howard "Speedy" and Betty Ledford all of Hayesville, NC; five daughters and their husbands, Lois and Bill Dyer, Irene and Leon "Teak" Penland, Clyde and Keith "Cotton" McCoy, Joyce and Jimmy Bryson and Evelyn and Harold Parker all of Hayesville, NC; four brothers, Clarence Ledford of Hiawassee, GA, Garnet Ledford of Blairsville, GA and Darence Ledford and Lawrence Ledford both of Burlington, NC; three sisters, Eva Cothern of Murphy, NC, Donnie Woods and Maggie Crane both of Hiawassee, GA; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, a special caregiver, Geneal Patterson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M., Monday April 2, 2007 at the Faith Tabernacle Church in Hayesville, NC with Rev. Curtis Ledford officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery in Hayesville, NC. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers donations may be made In Memory of Ruth L. Ledford to the Bethel Cemetery Fund c/o Charles Parker, 769 Muskrat Creek Road, Hayesville, NC 28904. Understanding and tenderness is needed by the family and the caregivers. We can only pray we are surrounded by loving, caring and understanding friends to grace us through the sunset of our lives. The family of Ruth L. Ledford appreciates everyone who touched the life of their mother, and I'm sure they would respond that Ruth certainly touched theirs.
