I know a truth
Millions of people in the world know it to be true. Millions of others don't believe it. I am speaking about the central event of Christianity. Sunday is Easter and the Christian world celebrates the defeat of death for humanity by Jesus the Christ, as he arose from the grave. The event signifies that we have nothing to fear in death. The end of this life is just the beginning of another, more significant, eternal life for those of us who accept Christ as our Savior. I remember Easter Sundays when I was growing up as a holiday that, for the most part, got right to the point and stayed on track. The holiday is on Sunday so church going people were exposed to the message of the risen Christ. There were fewer distractions and frills from the real meaning of the celebration. Of course, we did have Easter egg hunts during the week. I enjoyed the fun of searching for the goodies. I especially liked eating sugary Easter eggs and jelly beans. On Easter Sunday, it seemed that everyone wore their best clothes. If you were to get some new dress-up clothes during the year, that was the best time to get them. However, neither myself or any of my friends ever believed in the Easter bunny as a real being like we did Santa Claus. The focus remained on God's plan of salvation for the human race. The bad news is for those who don't believe, because they are missing out on the great truth. But of course, they believe they are right - they may be of another religion that doesn't accept the forgiveness of our sins through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. They may be atheists, who I believe have more faith than anyone - believing that the world evolved out of nothing all by itself. I don't condemn the unbelievers in any way. But since I believe I know a vital truth for every man and woman, why would I keep quiet about it. This isn't a religious column. So I don't write about my belief in this great truth every week. But my belief is who I am.Therefore, I believe I need to make it clear where I stand on this matter. What better time to do it than just before Easter.
If you are offended by my expressing my belief, I am not sorry. When you know a great truth, you want to let people know about it.
