Church Calendar Church of the Good Sheperd Reverend John Rice of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville invites area residents and visitors to join in the celebration of Holy Week. Services will include, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Services for Maundy Thursday will be at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 5. This special evening service commemorates Chris'ís Last Supper, at which Jesus instituted the sacrament of Holy Communion. Maundy, Latin meaning,"to command," fulfills His commandment on that Thursday evening that we love one another and follow His example when He washed His disciples feet. Accordingly, the traditional Maundy Thursday Service will include Holy Communion and footwashing. Two services will be held on Good Friday, April 6, at 12 Noon and 7:00 P.M. Both will include The Solemn Liturgy, with meditations and prayers concerning Christ's Crucifixion and the Stations of the Cross, which honor his Passion and Death. On April 8, Easter Sunday, the holiest of holy days in the Christian calendar, services will be held at 8:00 and 10:30 A.M. To commemorate the beauty and sacredness of this Day of Resurrection, ceremonies will be marked by special Bible readings, music, sermon and a profusion of flowers to proclaim the Easter jubilation, "Alleluia, Christ is Risen." His glorious Resurrection is further celebrated with greenery and spring flowers placed upon a huge wooden cross to symbolize new life. A children's Easter egg hunt will follow the 10:30 service. All are welcome. The Church of the Good Shepherd is located one mile from the traffic light on Route #64 East in Hayesville. First United Methodist Church Holy Week Services are being offered to the community by First United Methodist Church, Hayesville.The services are held in the Chapel at 12:05 pm each day, Monday though Friday ,April 2-6. The thirty minute service is followed by a free lunch available in the Gathering Place , either "eat-in" or "takeout ". The services are designed to offer an opportunity for warship during the lunch hour. Services Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday feature guest preachers. On Monday Rev. Clarissa Youngblood Fuentes will preach. Rev Fuentes grew up in First Church . She is the daughter of Baster and Paula Youngblood of Hayesville, and her great grandparents are Paul and Hattie Cunningham . She received her AB degree from UNC Chapel Hill and the Master of Divinity Degree from Duke Divinity School. Rev. Fuentes is a staff Chaplain in the Emergency Department of Grady Memorial Hospitals in Atlanta. She is married to Andres Fuentes and resides in Austell, GA. The preacher for the service on Tuesday is Rev. Daris Baker . Rev. Baker is the pastor of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris , GA. He is a musician , a violinist , with a degree in music education. He received the Master of Divinity Degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University. He served 22 years as a youth pastor before beginning pastoral ministry in 1998. On Wednesday Rev. John Rice is the preacher. Rev. Rice is pastor of the Episcopal Church of Good Shepherd in Hayesville. He also serves as the North Carolina State Chaplain for the Order of St. Luke , an international ministry of healing. A native of Vermont, Fr. John worked for a number of years as s county extension agent with the University of Vermont, prior to entering the priesthood in the Episcopal Church. Services Thursday and Friday will be lead by Rev. Kirk Hatherly, pastor of First United Methodist Church , Hayesville . He will be the celebrant for the Maundy Thursday Communion Service. On Good Friday he is the preacher for the day. Easter Sunrise Service at Bethel Harvest & Bethabara Baptist Church The pastor of Bethel Harvest Church and Bethabara Baptist Church are joining their congregations on Easter morning to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. First Assembly of God in Andrews will be celebrating it's 20th Anniversary on Sunday April 15th. Four previous pastors will be in the Sunday morning Service at 10:45am. There will be a covered dish picnic at their new property on 191 Robinson Road following the service. Sunday night through Wednesday at 7pm they will have a special series of services with JD Holmes, former pastor and evangelist. Worship and Special music nightly.
