Track teams run to victory in home meet

Hayesville men and women track teams hosted three Smoky Mountain Conference schools on Wednesday , March 28th . Teams other than Hayesville competing in the meet were: Murphy, Robbinsville and Swain.

The Lady Jackets earned a first place victory over all women teams. The lady's took seven first place finishes in the meet and qualifying four more events to the Regions. Stella Snowden led all female competitors with three individual first place fishes . They were in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races. She teamed with Courtney Sheldon, Holly Runstrom and Heather Richbourgto win the 4 X 800 relay. The performance, by stella was exceptional; not only because of her first place finishes in four events, but because each event meet qualification time for the Region and were the fastest times recorded in the SMC this year.

Other first place honors were: Rebecca Robinson in the discus, Madelaine Roberts in the high jump and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays of : Paige Crisp , Carissa Dancer, Andrea Ball and Christelle Vereb. All of these women met the best performances of the year and each event in now qualified to the Regions.

In the men's competition it came down to Hayesville and Robbinsville. Robbinsville earned the first overall with Jackets a close second.

The men had five first place finishes in the meet. Nick Jones remained undefeated in the discus. The 4x800 Relay of : Ryan Gentle, Sean Henrikson, Kyle Ingram and Levi Gentle ran their fastest time of the year and finished first and qualified to Region. Sean Henrikson ran 53 second 400 meters to win the men's competition and qualify to Regions. Kyle Ingram ran a qualifying time in the 800 meters and got first in the meet. Levi Gentle rounded out the first place finishes with a winning 3200 meter race.

Both teams will now have two meets this week. First at Rabun County High School on Tuesday, April 3rd and Wednesday at Andrews. The teams will not be competing during spring break, but will be practicing to get ready for the Robbinsville Relays and SMC Championship.
