Art Association Classes

The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (BRMAA) is offering several new classes this month. Watercolor Primer (watercolors for beginners) w/Ken Umbach will be on Wednesdays, and April 4 & 11 from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m., and finally, Kaleidoscopes: The Arts Association also has several ongoing classes that can be joined at any time: Line Dancing Monday evenings w/Sandy Schubert and Handbuilding Clay for Adults w/Lynn Dwyer on Fridays from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Adult Oils on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. changes instructors each 6 weeks. BRMAA also offers Piano lessons with Neila Pace on Tuesdays and Beginning Guitar with Rachel Claire (flexible schedules). Clay County Extension Service: Spring Gardening!

When do I plant my garden? What do I plant? What things can I expect throughout the gardening season? Do any of these questions come to your mind when Spring rolls around? The Cooperative Extension Service will be holding a "Vegetable Gardening" session on Wednesday, April 11, at 12 Noon at the Clay County Community Services Building. Culinary Class

Stecoah Valley Food Ventures will be offering another Culinary Retreat Cooking Class on Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 until 2:00. The name of the class is: Great Beginnings and Sweet Endings The focus of this class will be on appetizers, garnishes & petit sweets Class fee of $55.00 includes everything for the class. Students will eat and take home food made in the class.

Learn to prepare a variety of appetizers using filo dough, puff pastry and other creative appetizer foundations. Students will learn a variety of ways to use a pastry bag from piping cream puff swans to creating miniature roses for petits fours.

Enchanted Valley Squares

The Enchanted Valley Squares hold their square dances in the Towns County Elementary School cafeteria. Dances are from 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. Free Diabetes classes offered at Library

Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions, and meters with you, Family members are also welcome.

Free WRAP classes

Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4 - 6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville Office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life.

WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education, and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness.

TCCC Foundation Plans Golf Tournament

The Tri-County Community College Foundation will hold its first Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 21 at The Ridges Country Club in Hayesville. The four-man, captain's choice format tournament is open to golfers of all levels. The total payout is $1,600 for first gross and first net. A variety of other contests and prizes will also be held including hole-in-one, closest to the pin women and men, longest drive women and men, and a putting contest. Door prizes, raffles and mulligans will also be available. The cost is $60 per person and includes greens and cart fees as well as a practice round on Friday for only a $20 cart fee. Event and hole sponsorships are also available to individuals and businesses. Proceeds from the tournament will go to support the Tri-County Community College Foundation.

The Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the College by providing resources and acting as a catalyst with the community. Foundation projects include scholarships, college and community events, financial assistance to student organizations, college facilities improvements, fundraising for the Fire and Rescue Training Center, and a planned giving program.

Relay for Life is Changing Dates!

Clay County is going to enjoy Relay for Life earlier than was first announced! Everyone will gather on the Square in Hayesville as planned previously; however, the dates will now be June 1, beginning at 6:00 pm and extending to June 2, 10 am to 2 pm!

We want to encourage everyone to keep June 8 open and on your calendar, as Hayesville High School will be holding their Class of 2007 Graduation Ceremony on this date.

Relayers are proud to move over for the "Future Relayers" to reap the rewards for completing their elementary and high school educations. Congratulations Class of 2007, we believe in your ability to change the future and continue the fight to eradicate cancer in your life time.

Open House at New HRWC Office

The Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition welcomes the public to an open house on Wednesday, April 11th from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will cut a ribbon at 1:00 p.m. to kick-off the event. Refreshments will be provided. This is a great opportunity to find out what projects HRWC is planning for 2007 or to pick up educational materials related to water quality protection and improvement. The new office is next to Peachtree Farm & Home Supply behind the Citgo station in the Peachtree community of Murphy, NC - just across the intersection from the previous location.

BRMAA announces April Classes

Julia Evatt, award winning sculptor, will be teaching a six week class for intermediate clay students. The focus of this class is the human figure and students will work with a live model. The class will be held on Thursday evenings April 5 - May 10 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Fiber artist Melody Little will be instructing a three week course, "Afghans Made Easy" on Thursdays, April 5, 12 & 19 from 10:00 -12:00. Always a wonderful gift - from babies to grandparents. Students will learn the different stitches to get them started on this surprisingle easy project.

Ms. Little will also be offering a course on making felted bags. Students will learn the felting process and create a colorful basket. The class will be Thursdays, April 26 and May 3 & 10 from 10:00 - 12:00 a.m.

Hidden Treasures

The Friends of the Moss Memorial Library's Thrift Store is now open in it's new location, across from the library and next door to the used bookstore. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10AM to 4PM and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours. The Tusquittee Community Association is having it's first monthly dinner of the on April 24 at 6:30 at the Community Center. Our speaker will be Sheriff Joe Shook. Come and see all of the improvements we have made to the building and bring your favorite dish to share.

CCCRA Chili Cook-Off

The CCRA Chili Cook-Off is this Saturday, April 14, on the Hayesville square. Tickets for the chili-tasting are $5 per person. Chili tasters travel to each south of the border and taste the sensual delight of a chili cook's special recipe. After tasting all the chili, tasters vote for their favorite. The chili cook with the most votes wins the coveted award of "Best Chili in Clay County." serving time is 11:30 to 2:00 with prizes awarded at 2:30.

Festive colors heighten the senses as decorated booths vie for the "Best Booth Award."
