Spring wildflowers hike week

What: Spring Wildflowers Hike Week

When: April 15 - 19

Where: Fontana Village Resort, Fontana Dam

Come join a spectacle of wildflowers during Fontana Village's Thirty Fourth Annual Spring Wildflowers Hiking Program April 15 to 19. This program, now in its 34th year, is the oldest wildflower hiking event in the south. Nestled among Fontana Lake, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Nantahala National Forest in western North Carolina, Fontana Village is the perfect place for wildflower enthusiasts.

Daily hikes include the trails of Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Twenty Mile Creek, and Tsali Recreation Area. A highlight of the event is a trip across Fontana Lake to the North Shore of the Great Smoky Mountains for hiking on Pilkey Creek.

During the evenings there will be entertainment from musicians Evan Marshall and Tyler Ramsey, as well as presentations from Tina Wesson (winner of Survivor: Australian Outback), Warren Doyle (14 time Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker), and Alan Muskat "the Mushroom Man." On the last day there will be a dinner and slideshow of the WILDflower week. For further information go to www.fontanavillage. com and check out the "Hiking and Biking" section. Or, call 800-849-2258, ext. 265.
