Discovering life's little pleasures with kid friendly crafts

Crafting is a fun way for kids of all ages to showcase their creativity and imagination. It's an educational bonding experience for everyone to enjoy.

In celebration of the craft season, craft retailers around the country will dedicate their efforts to crafting, offering special classes, demonstrations, tips and projects to get customers involved in the joys of crafting.

Not only is crafting a fun pastime, it is also a $30 billion industry, presenting an endless number of projects and avenues for creativity. With so many imaginative possibilities, all are encouraged to take that great kid in their lives - a child, grandchild, niece/nephew, neighbor or someone who is simply a kid at heart - to their local craft store to enjoy the festivities.

In recognition of the craft season, the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) offers the following tips so that everyone can easily become involved and discover the pleasure of starting a new craft project.

+ Keep a box with odds and ends from past crafting projects. Kids can use their imaginations to put these scraps to good use.

+ Use paper plates as a mini "palette" to hold paints, glue, and any other materials that tend to spill.

+ Keep craft items organized in plastic containers, baskets, or plastic sandwich bags. This is also a great way to divide up supplies when crafting with more than one person.

+ Keep work surfaces covered by using newspapers, plastic table covers, or even an old shower curtain.

+ Keep baby wipes handy for quick clean-ups.

+ Most importantly ... use your imagination! And never forget that there are no mistakes when "creating."
