Track Team run two meets before Spring break

Levi and Ryan Gentle pack a one-two punch in the 3200 meter race

The Hayesville women and men track team competed in two meets prior to the Spring Break, at Raybun Country, GA, on Tuesday, April 3rd and again on Wednesday, April 4th at Andrews High School. The meet at Rayburn was a dual meet while the meet at Andrews was against three other SMC schools.

At Raybun, the men and women won the meet. The women had some of their best times and distances in the meet and finished with six first place performances. Stella Snowden and Madelaine led the women. Stella won the 1600 and 3200 meter races; while Madelaine Roberts was first in the Triple Jump and High Jump. Other first place finishes for the women were: Christelle Vereb in the 100 meters and Heather Richbourg in the 800 meters.

At Andrews, the women had seven first place performances: Again Stella Snowden led the way. She had first in the 800,1600,3200 and ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x800 relay team. Simple math shows Stella ran a total of 6400 meters at Andrews (4 miles) and won each of her four races. In the 4x900 relay Stella teamed with Nancy Kelly, Heather Richbourg and Courtney Sheldon. This relay is undefeated in each meet this year. Madelaine Roberts won the High Jump wit her P.R of 5 feet. Page Crisp, Carissa Dancer, Andrea Ball and Christelle Vereb to give the Lady Jackets first in the 4x100 and 4x200 Relays against teams from : Swain, Andrews and Hiwassee Dam.

In the Men's competition, the men had five first place performances, Jonathan Shively and Kyle Ingram led the way with two first place finishes each. Kyle won the 800 and 1600 meter races and Jonathan was first in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Levi Gentle ran his best time of the season in the 3200 meters to win the race.

In the Andrews meet, the Jackets earn four first place finishes:The 4x800 relay team started it off winning with the races of : Ryan Gentle, Sean Henrikson, Kyle Ingram and Levi Gentle. The 4x200 Relay team of : Tino Scolero, Jared Tanner, Kyle Lickteig and Josh Holloway ran to victory against the other three teams. Individual first were recorded by:Sean Henrikson in the 400 meter and Levi Gentle in the 3200 meters.

Both teams will now practice over Spring Break and get back into action at the Robbinsville Relays on Wednesday April 18th.

As of now, the teams have qualified many events to the Region Championships due to the times and distance they have recorded thru the first meet. The men have qualified ten events so far and the women have qualified fifteen events out of seventeen for the Regions.

After the meet at Robbinsville, the teams will compete for the SMC Championship on Wednesday, April 25th.
