New location for Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition

The Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition held a ribbon cutting at its new location in the Peachtree Community. Celebrating the opening of the new office, from left, are Cherokee

County Chamber executive director Sande Kimball, HRWC executive director Callie Moore, HRWC board member Jim Carringer, county manager and chamber board member

David Badger, HRWC board member Silas Allen, chamber board member Paul

Worley, and chamber ambassadors Rod Springer and David Brown. The coalition is a

nonprofit organization that strives to facilitate water quality improvement throughout the upper Hiwassee River watershed, across political boundaries, while honoring local initiatives.

For the past 12 years, the coalition has been working to stop erosion of land and streambanks, monitor water quality in streams and lakes, and educate people about how

to protect watersheds in the future. The HRWC has a variety of volunteer opportunities,

and the director is available to speak to civic organizations or school classes of just about any age. The new headquarters is next to the Peachtree Farm and Home Supply,

across from Peachtree Elementary School. For more information, call 828.837.5414
