The Chilly, Chili Cook-off

Haley Raux ready to dish out her Hobo Chili.
Entering the town square dressed as a hobo at CCCRA's Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, April 14, was young Haley Reaux who stirred her brew in a metal can and dished out the winning chili. Haley won the three awards of "Best Chili in Clay County", "Best Booth", and "Best Youth". Thank you, Haley, for your civic pride and hard work.

Haley's father chef James Reaux was asked if he helped with the chili said, "I got the ingredients and gave her the recipe; she did the rest."

"Road Kill" chili placed Barry and Joan Rose at the top of the "Individual" category. With Dennis Barber behind the pot, The Copper Door claimed the "Business" award. Peggy Harris ladled out a delicious mixture for Christ the King Church and took home the "Civic/Church" award.

Chili-tasters remarked how difficult it was to vote for their favorite this year. All of the chili was extremely good and unusual. Thanks to all the chili cooks who worked so hard and made this event so much fun!

Sponsors for the 2007 Chili Cook-Off were the following: Bank of Hiawassee, United Community Bank, Nantahala Bank, Gnarly Fingers Band, Absolutely Direct Inc., and Signs Fast. .

And the winners are- Haley Raux, Peggy Harris, Barry and Joan Rose and Dennis Barber.
