CALENDAR The American Cancer Society will sponsor "Relay for Life" on June 8 and 9 on the HIstoric Hayesville Courthouse Square. Enchanted Valley Squares The Enchanted Valley Squares hold their square dances in the Towns County Elementary School cafeteria. Dances are from 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. Free Diabetes classes offered at Library Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions, and meters with you, Family members are also welcome. Free WRAP classes Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4 - 6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville Office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life. WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education, and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness. There is HOPE for a better life! Clay County is going to enjoy Relay for Life earlier than was first announced! Everyone will gather on the Square in Hayesville as planned previously; however, the dates will now be June 1, beginning at 6:00 pm and extending to June 2, 10 am to 2 pm! We want to encourage everyone to keep June 8 open and on your calendar, as Hayesville High School will be holding their Class of 2007 Graduation Ceremony on this date. Relayers are proud to move over for the "Future Relayers" to reap the rewards for completing their elementary and high school educations. Congratulations Class of 2007, we believe in your ability to change the future and continue the fight to eradicate cancer in your life time. Everything stays the same for Relay Wrap up activities which includes delicious food and entertainment for all ages! So, take out your markers, get down your calendars, fire up your Blackberries, text message your friends and be on the Square in Hayesville at 6:00 pm on June 1 and June 2 from 10 am to 2 pm! See you there, Clay County. Friends of the Library Book Store We're ready for spring with a new coat of paint and hundreds of donations! Save $$$ on all your favorite books (Records Too!) and help support Moss Memorial Library, located across from Library in Hayesville Mon 12:30 - 4:00 Tues - Sat 10-4. BRMAA announces April Classes Julia Evatt, award winning sculptor, will be teaching a six week class for intermediate clay students. The focus of this class is the human figure and students will work with a live model. The class will be held on Thursday evenings April 5 - May 10 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Fiber artist Melody Little will be instructing a three week course, "Afghans Made Easy" on Thursdays, April 5, 12 & 19 from 10:00 -12:00. Always a wonderful gift - from babies to grandparents. Students will learn the different stitches to get them started on this surprisingle easy project. Ms. Little will also be offering a course on making felted bags. Students will learn the felting process and create a colorful basket. Hidden Treasures The Friends of the Moss Memorial Library's Thrift Store is now open in it's new location, across from the library and next door to the used bookstore. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10AM to 4PM and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours. Women's Resource Center Will be holding Holiday survival skills classes at the Moss Memorial Library every Monday & Friday from 10-12 for 5 weeks starting April 16, 2007. Knitting and Felting at The Art Center The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association is offering two new classes this month. Beginning Knitting will teach students the basics - cast on, knit, purl and binding off. Using these techniques they will create a scarf or dishcloth. The class will be held on Tuesday April 24 and May 1 from 10:00 - 12:00. Thursdays, April 26 and May 3 from 10:00 -12:00. Movie at Murphy Library The Murphy Public Library has a beautiful and funny homage to soccer in store for filmgoers on Thursday, April 26. Three groups of passionate soccer fans in Mongolia, the Sahara Desert of Niger, and the Amazon jungle in Brazil have two things in common. No TV and a huge desire to watch the televised 2002 World Cup finals between Germany and Brazil. The Great Match visits strange places and the people talk in odd languages. But they all love soccer and will succeed in making you smile.
