The Hayesville High School men and women cross country teams continue to receive awards for their Championship season. Both teams were finalist for the 1A/2A Olympic Sports Team. This honor includes all sports of an Olympic nature: soccer, track, wrestling, tennis, swimming, and cross country. The awards are given by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club of Asheville and all schools in Western North Carolina are considered.
At the Sports Award Banquet held at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, over ninety athletes in High School and College attended. The Hayesville Women's Cross Country team was selected as the most outstanding female Olympic Sports team in Western North Carolina. This is the 4th consecutive year the women have received this honor.
Both the women and men had an individual finalist for the most outstanding male and female 1A/2A Olympic Sport athlete. Kyle Ingram and Stella Snowden were finalist. Kyle was awarded a $2000 scholarship by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club to be used for his college education.
