The work of America's 2.9 million registered nurses to save lives and to maintain the health of millions of individuals is the focus of this year's National Nurses Week, celebrated annually May 6-12 throughout the United States. This year's theme is "Nursing: A Profession and a Passion."

Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as Nurses'

Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. During this week, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and licensed practical nurses at Murphy Medical Center will be honored with some special recognitions and events.

Cards will be provided in each department and waiting room for visitors, patients, physicians and employees to write a note of appreciation to a favoritenurse. Cards will be displayed throughout the hospital for everyone to read and then presented to the honored nurse.
