CALENDAR Relay for Life The American Cancer Society will sponsor "Relay for Life" on June 8 and 9 on the historic Hayesville Courthouse Square. Free Diabetes classes offered at Library Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions and meters with you. Family members are also welcome. Free WRAP classes Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life. WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness. There is HOPE for a better life! Clay County is going to enjoy Relay for Life earlier than was first announced! Everyone will gather on the Square in Hayesville as planned previously; however, the dates will now be June 1, beginning at 6 p.m. and extending to June 2, 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.! We want to encourage everyone to keep June 8 open and on their calendar, as Hayesville High School will be holding their Class of 2007 Graduation Ceremony on this date. Relayers are proud to move over for the "Future Relayers" to reap the rewards for completing their elementary and high school educations. Congratulations Class of 2007, we believe in your ability to change the future and continue the fight to eradicate Cancer in your life time. Everything stays the same for Relay wrap-up activities, which includes delicious food and entertainment for all ages! So take out your markers, get down your calendars, fire up your Blackberries, text message your friends and be on the Square in Hayesville at 6 p.m. on June 1, and June 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.! See you there, Clay County. Friends of the Library Book Store We're ready for spring with a new coat of paint and hundreds of donations! Save $$$ on all your favorite books (and records too!) and help support Moss Memorial Library. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours. Women's Resource Center Will be holding Holiday survival skills classes at the Moss Memorial Library every Monday & Friday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for five weeks starting April 16, 2007. Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition The Board of Directors of the Hiwasssee River Watershed Coalition will meet at the Peachtree Restaurant (NC) on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. for dinner. Free Health Seminar A free health seminar will be presented on "Avoiding the Obesity Threat." Obesity is becoming the greatest preventable factor of premature death. Strategies on how to reduce the risk of becoming or remaining overweight for children and adults will be presented. The seminar will be at the Blairsville Better Living Center, located between the animal shelter and Home Depot, at 1325 Watkins Road, Blairsville at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 and will be presented by Johanne Kittle, the Director of the Better Living Center and PhD candidate. Blood Drive The American Red Cross needs blood. Please help by donating blood at the upcoming Hayesville community drive to be held at Hayesville First United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 10 from 1:30 p.m.-6 p.m. All blood types are needed. Call 389-8413 to schedule your appointment. MMC Hospital Week Come to Murphy Medical Center on May 10 or 16 to celebrate "Hospital Week" with us. We will be conducting tours of the hospital and medication card assistance, on a first-come first-served basis from 9-3 p. m. Put all your medications in a bag and meet with a medical professional who will help you list all your current medications on a free medication card, compliments of Murphy Medical. Medications include prescription drugs, over the counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements. Once again those dates are Thursday May 10 and Wednesday May 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thank you for allowing us to show you our facilities and help you have an accurate and current medication list to keep in your wallet for emergencies. Brasstown Ringers The Brasstown Ringers Community Handbell Choir invites you to its 2007 spring concerts at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC on Friday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. and at First Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 13. Yearbook Day: May 18 H.E.S., H.M.S. & H.H.S. students will follow class schedules to pick up books. TCCC Graduation Friday, May 11 Tri-County Community College is holding its 2007 Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 11 at 6 p.m. in the Enloe Building on the Main Campus. More than 100 students from the Main Campus and the Graham County Center are expected to receive their degrees, certificates and diplomas during the ceremony. Senior's Health Fair The Clay County Senior Center will hold their 8th Annual Seniors' Health Fair on Friday, May 11, 2007 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Clay County Senior Center, 196 Ritter Road in Hayesville. The Center will provide seniors with free hearing tests, free blood pressure checks and low-cost bloodwork. They will also be sponsoring a blood drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be door prizes and freebies, so come out and support Blood Assurance, your Regional Blood Center supplying Murphy Medical Center. Annual Farm Acreage Reports Due The Cherokee/Clay/Graham Counties Farm Service Agencies requires all farm owners/operators to report acreage annually before June 30th, even if the land is idle or grass. The Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, NC is inviting car enthusiast's to bring out their collector cars on May 16 (Wednesday) when they will be having their 50's day. Cars can start showing up around 10 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring happiness into the lives of people who no longer get out that much or at all. The next meeting of the Good Neighbors Auto Club will be Thursday, May 17 at Meeks Park in Blairsville, GA. Come early to fellowship and enjoy our pot luck dinner. Members are asked to bring a dish to share. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come and share the love of the car hobby. You do NOT have to own a vehicle to join or attend our meetings. If you have an old car or truck that has been restored or modified or a new vehicle that has been modified, you are welcome to come to our meetings. We meet the third Thursday of each month. Each month we donate to a charity. Last month's charity was to a Trust at United Community Bank for Michael Kapler's daughter's college fund.
