Making their way to state...

Holly Runstrom, Stella Snowden, and Rachel Bush lead the way in the 1600 meters. Holly was the Region Champion in this event.
The Hayesville High School men and women's track teams competed against the best in the West Region Championship on Saturday, May 5th. Asteady rain and cool temperatures allowed the teams to perform in relatively comfortable condititions.

There were eighteen teams in the Region C h a m p i o n s h i p , Hayesville women earned the Runner-up trophy for their second place overall finish and the men's team finished seventh overall.

The goal in the Region is to qualify to the State Championship. Only the top four in each event move on to the State Meet. Hayesville women qualified eleven to State and the men qualified ten. In this meet, a first place finish earns All- Region honors and a second place finish earns Honorable Mention honors.

Six Ladyjackets earned All-Region honors by virtue of a first place finish. They were: Holly Runstrom in the 4x800 and 1600, Stella Snowden, Heather Richbourg, and Courtney Shelton in the 4x800. Andrea Ball, Paige Crisp, Carissa Dancer, and Christelle Vereb in the 4x200. Honorable mention honors went to Madelaine Roberts in the High Jump and Triple Jump, Rebecca Robinson in the Discus. The 4x100 relay of: Ball, Dancer, Crisp, and Vereb, the 4x400 relay of: Shelton, Crisp, Richbourg, and Runstrom and Heather Richbourg in the 800.

The men's team had four Honorable Mention All- Region runners: Ryan Gentle, Levi Gentle, Kyle Ingram, and Sean Henrikson.

The following athletes will now compete in the State Championship at NC A&T in Greenboro, NC on Friday, May 11. They are: Andrea Ball, Rachel Bush, Paige Crisp, Carissa Dancer, Heather Richbourg, Madelaine Roberts, Rebecca Robinson, Holly Runstrom, Courtney Sheldon, Stella Snowden and Christelle Vereb for the women and Levi Gentle, Ryan Gentle, Sean Henrikson, Josh Holloway, Tyler Hyatt, Kyle Ingram, Jordan Jones, Kyle Lickteig, Jacob Nicholson, and Jonathan Shively for the men.

Congratulations to all twenty-one athletes and good luck in the State Championship.
