J. B. Davis

J. B. Davis, age 77, of Hayesville, passed away Friday, May 18, 2007 at his home. J.B. was born Sunday, April 20, 1930 in Cherokee Co. NC to the late Ben Byers and the late Minnie Stroud Byers. He attended Shelton Arms Church and was a US Army veteran.. J.B. enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved working on cars and tending his garden.

Survivors include: wife, Arthel McCray Davis, son & daughterin law, Billy & Barbara Jean Davis of Greensboro, Ga., son & daughter-in-law, Bobby & Sheila Davis of Loganville, Ga., son, Jerry Davis of Atlanta, brother, Hillas Davis of Hayesville, NC, granddaughter, Valerie Miller, grandson, Bryan Davis, grandson, Brad Davis, granddaughter, Ashley Waldrep, grandson, Brock Davis and six great grandchilren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dallas Crowder, Reverend Mitchell Totherow and Reverend Jackie Sellers officiating. Music was provided by Jimmy Anderson and Diane Crowder. Interment followed in Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Rick McCray, Dewayne McCray, Rex Davis, Johnny Welch, Barrett Davis and Noel Matheson. Honorary pallbearers included: Everett McCray, Clifton McCray and Jim Matheson. Military graveside rites were conducted by veterans organizations: Murphy VFW Post 1022, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96 and DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812.
