Before all of the testing and final exams take place and prior to the final fitting of all those stylish graduation caps, H.H.S. students get exactly one day to do whatever they want and enjoy time with their friends.
"It's just a bunch of fun, really, that's all it is," said freshman Berek Westfall. "I mean, dude, you hang out at school with your friends and you don't have to do homework or schoolwork. It's awesome!"
With the help of the student council and sponsor Betty McKinney, Student Council President Craig Shook put together this year's event. "The whole student council did a good job. I think it took a group effort," he said.
Shook was in charge of announcing the activities available to the crowd of almost 400 students. "We have capture the flag, a wheelbarrow race, volleyball, Red Rover, a face-painting contest, limbo, ultimate frisbee and an art contest," he said. Any students who participated in the art contest had to complete their masterpieces by 12:30 p.m. when judges would announce winners.
Many students took the time to play football, soccer, or volleyball. "If you see an activity you like, just go ahead and join it," Shook said. After lunch students enjoyed a pie-eating contest, rounding off the day's events.
