Like to dream about the good ole days?Bring those dreams on down to the Hayesville Square on Saturday, June 9 from 12:00 to 4:00 for the 2007 Car-B-Que. It's free admission to view these beautiful classics. Enjoy live music and feast on tantalizing barbecue for $6.00 per plate. Hot dogs and drinks are available. To enter an automobile, the entry fee is $10.00. Registration begins at 11:00 and ends at 1:00. Clay County Communities Revitalization Association invites you to a festive afternoon on the square on Saturday, June 9 for the Car-B-Que. Free Diabetes classes offered at Library Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions and meters with you. Family members are also welcome.
Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life. WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness. There is HOPE for a better life! Clay County is going to enjoy Relay for Life earlier than was first announced! Everyone will gather on the Square in Hayesville as planned previously; however, the dates will now be June 1, beginning at 6 p.m. and extending to June 2, 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.! We want to encourage everyone to keep June 8 open and on their calendar, as Hayesville High School will be holding their Class of 2007 Graduation Ceremony on this date. Relayers are proud to move over for the "Future Relayers" to reap the rewards for completing their elementary and high school educations. Congratulations Class of 2007, we believe in your ability to change the future and continue the fight to eradicate Cancer in your life time. Everything stays the same for Relay wrap-up activities, which includes delicious food and entertainment for all ages! So take out your markers, get down your calendars, fire up your Blackberries, text message your friends and be on the Square in Hayesville at 6 p.m. on June 1, and June 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.! Save $$$ on all your favorite books (and records too!) and help support Moss Memorial Library. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours. Women's Resource Center Will be holding Holiday survival skills classes at the Moss Memorial Library every Monday & Friday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for five weeks starting April 16, 2007. Annual Farm Acreage Reports Due The Cherokee/Clay/Graham Counties Farm Service Agencies requires all farm owners/operators to report acreage annually before June 30th, even if the land is idle or grass. Cherokee Trail Decorative Painters The local chapter of the society of decorative painters will meet May 26. Hearing Loss Services Offered Judith Pittillo, Hard of Hearing Services specialist with the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing, Asheville Regional Center, will be at the Clay County Senior Center in Hayesville on Tuesday, July 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Ms. Pittillo will be available to assist persons with hearing loss and communication issues. She will also have information regarding assistive devices, programs and applications for services. Poetry Workshop Meets at Tri-County College The Poetry Workshop with critique sessions sponsored by the North Carolina Writers' Network West will meet Thursday, June 7, at Tri-County Community College, McSwain Building (conference room) Murphy, NC, from 7 - 9 p.m. Contact Janice Moore, (828) 389- 6394 for more information. Quilting Ministry Meets Truett Memorial First Baptist Quilting Ministry meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 10 a.m., downstairs in the church office building. TCCC Summer Registration June 4-5 Tri-County Community College will be holding registration for the summer semester on June 4-5 on the Main Campus and June 5 at the Graham County Center from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Classes begin Wednesday, June 6. The Summer semester lasts eight weeks and includes some of the most popular courses the college offers. A couple of new PE courses have been added that will get students out into the woods. Backpacking will cover the proper techniques for establishing a campsite, navigating in the wilderness and planning for an overnight trip. Nature Hiking will teach students how to equip and care for oneself on the trail. More than 30 courses are also being offered either entirely or partially online. Talent Night at the Square "The Singing Stars For a Better World," a precious group of children ages 5-10 years old, will warm everyone's heart with their classic Broadway hits and positive messages about life! They are a treat, and not to be missed! Last year's Towns Co. Idol winners and favorites, Heather Poole, Palmer Dernehl and Danny Patterson, will perform solo numbers to showcase their wonderful voices. Rounding out the evening are Sheila Reed and the Reed Family, featuring young talent in the best country and gospel venue. So bring your lawn chair or blanket, your family and friends, and even the family pet is welcome (if accompanied on a leash and with a "pooper-scooper" for clean-up!) There will be ice cream, hot dogs and beverages for sale, along with Concert-on-the Square t-shirts. Call (706) 896-4988 after 2 p.m. to see if weather threatens to cancel the show.
