Local student honored for service
Ann Guggisberg of Warne, N.C., a senior at Hayesville High School, was officially presented with an engraved bronze medallion to signify her selection as a distinguished finalist in the 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, which honors outstanding youth volunteers. The presentation took place on Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m. during senior awards night.
Ann is being honored for organizing and teaching beginner art classes for elementary and middle school students in the summers of 2005 and 2006. In addition, she produced and sold note cards featuring the students' work, and then donated the $1,000 in proceeds to local libraries.
More than 7,500 local honorees were reviewed by statelevel judges, who selected two state honorees in each state.
