Arthur Scott, the driver of the black BMW X5, was apparently traveling into town when the accident occured just before 5 p.m.
According to the account of the N.C Highway Patrol, Robert Silknitter was traveling north and was over the yellow line in the center of the road when Scott, headed south, swerved to avoid a collision.
"I was going the other way and I saw it in my mirror," said Silknitter. "They just flipped as they went down."
Ambulances were on the scene shortly after it occured, just two miles outside of Hayesville. Both vehicles had originally been traveling at a speed of approximately 43 miles per hour, and had slowed to around 33mph by impact.
Silknitter returned to the scene following the accident.
