Assistant district attorney sworn in to office

District Attorney Michael Bonfoey announced that he has appointed Tessa Shelton Sellers to serve as an Assistant District Attorney with his office in the 30th Prosecutorial District. Ms. Sellers received her oath of office at 9 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Clay County Courthouse. District Court Judge Rick Walker administered the oath of office.

District Attorney Bonfoey said, "I am very pleased to appoint Tessa to this position. It is great to find a young person for this position with outstanding academic credentials and strong local connections to Clay County." Bonfoey indicated that Sellers initially will be assigned to handle cases in Clay, Graham and Cherokee Counties. Bonfoey stated, "The new Clay County Courthouse will have an office made available to the District Attorney and when that occurs, Tessa will be holding regular office hours in Hayesville."

Sellers was raised in Clay County, North Carolina. She is a product of the Clay County School System having graduated from Hayesville High School in 1996. Sellers received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mars Hill College in 1999. In December 2003 she completed her legal education and received her Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University Law School. Sellers is the daughter of Charles and Denise Shelton of Hayesville, North Carolina. Sellers' sisters, Marissa Peck and Carissa Shelton, both reside in Clay County.
