Ann gathered numerous awards and achievements during her high school years that included Academic All-Star and Superintendentís Honor Roll all four years. She was also selected as Lake Chatuge Rotary Club Student of the Month and voted female "Academic Standout" her senior year. She was also recognized at an "All American Scholar" by the United States Achievement Academy and a National Merit Award Winner. Her volunteer work included teaching two childrenís art classes, performing secretarial work for the Clay County Communities Revitalization Association, contributing to the Operation Christmas Shoebox project, and helping with the Hiawassee Festival of the Arts in addition to helping raise funds for the Relay for Life. Glatthar's vita is also a Who's Who bio. During his high school career he served as President of the Mu Alpha Theta club, the Beta Club, the Monogram Club, and the National Honor Society. He was also vice president of the Junior Class, a SADD representative, member of the student council and Senior Representative for "100 Strong," a drug, alcohol, and tobacco free program initiated in Clay County. Glatthar was awarded membership in the National Society of High School Scholars and the National Technical Honor Society. He was recognized as an All-American Scholar, Superintendentís Scholar, and was selected to Whoís Who in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. During his high school career he won the Citizenship Award (2007), the Principalís Leadership Award, the Presidentís Award for Educational Excellence, Class Awards for Science and Math (2007), and the VFW Award of Honor. In addition to serving on the JCPC, Glattharís civic involvement included helping build the bridge leading to the Spike Buck Mound, tutoring fellow high school students, and helping coach the Hayesville Youth Basketball camp (2005 and 2006). Athletic achievements included varsity letters in golf (2004), baseball (2005), and basketball (2006). In 2007 he was gained All Conference Honorable Mention for golf.
Ann and Michael are great role models for our youth to follow. Both students benefited from great parental support and expectations. I think a key to their success is their involvement in so many activities and their ability to stay focused and see projects through to completion. I look forward to following their careers as they develop into citizens not only of Hayesville but the US and the world, observed Rhinehardt.
