Free Diabetes classes offered at Library

Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions and meters with you. Family members are also welcome.

Free WRAP classes

Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life.

WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness.

Friends of the Library Book Store

We're ready for spring with a new coat of paint and hundreds of donations! Save $$$ on all your favorite books (and records too!) and help support Moss Memorial Library. Located across from the library in Hayesville Monday 12:30 - 4 p.m., Tues - Sat 10 - 4 p.m.

Intermediate Bridge

Hidden Treasures

The Friends of the Moss Memorial Library's Thrift Store is now open in it's new location, across from the library and next door to the used bookstore. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours. Call Susan Kaagan at 389-3325 to arrange for pickup of larger items.

Moose Lodge

We are now forming a Moose Lodge and invite you to join us. Our meetings are held at Homers CornerCafe located at Hwy 19/129 in Murphy, NC inside Fosters Flea Market. Come early and join us for a Dutch Treat lunch. Our meetings are held on the 2nd Friday of each month at 1 p.m. For further information please call Art or Donna Harris at (828) 389-6342.

Annual Farm Acreage Reports Due

The Cherokee/Clay/ Graham Counties Farm Service Agencies requires all farm owners/ operators to report acreage annually before June 30th, even if the land is idle or grass. Please visit the Farm Service Office at 225 Valley River Ave. in the 409 Building in Suite J, Murphy. Intermediate Bridge

Intermediate Bridge is being played at the Senior Center in Hiawassee on Mondays and Fridays, starting at 12:45 p.m. All players welcome. For more information please call (828) 389-8065.

Hearing Loss Services Offered

Judith Pittillo, Hard of Hearing Services specialist with the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing, Asheville Regional Center, will be at the Clay County Senior Center in Hayesville on Tuesday, July 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Ms. Pittillo will be available to assist persons with hearing loss and communication issues. She will also have information regarding assistive devices, programs and applications for services. Space is limited, so please call the senior center at (828) 389-9271 aqnd schedule your appointment before June 27.

Quilting Ministry Meets

Truett Memorial First Baptist Quilting Ministry meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 10 a.m., downstairs in the church office building. All are welcome to join in fellowship as we make lap, fidget and infant quilts for those in need. For information contact Linda Davis at (828) 389-4233 or lulu111@verizon.net.

Talent Night at the Square

"The Singing Stars For a Better World," a precious group of children ages 5-10 years old, will warm everyone's heart with their classic Broadway hits and positive messages about life! They are a treat, and not to be missed!

Last year's Towns Co. Idol winners and favorites, Heather Poole, Palmer Dernehl and Danny Patterson, will perform solo numbers to showcase their wonderful voices.

Rounding out the evening are Sheila Reed and the Reed Family, featuring young talent in the best country and gospel venue. So bring your lawn chair or blanket, your family and friends, and even the family pet is welcome (if accompanied on a leash and with a "pooper-scooper" for cleanup!) There will be ice cream, hot dogs and beverages for sale, along with Concert-onthe Square t-shirts. Call (706) 896-4988 after 2 p.m. to see if weather threatens to cancel the show.

Ooops.......please note corrections to posters and rack cards: the July 14 concert (mistakenly ommitted!) will be Tony Ford and also the Gnarly Fingers Band.

August 19 should be listed as August 18 and August 26 listed as August 25. Watch for corrected posters and rack card schedules in a week or so!

Handbell Concert

JuBELLation will be in concert Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free admission and no reservations are required. The Junior handbell choir is from Portland, OR. The concert will be at St. William Catholic Church, 765 Andrews Rd., Murphy, and is sponsored by MAPAA & Brasstown Ringers. For more information call (828) 837-8822.

Tusquittee Dinner

The Tusquittee Community Dinner will be on Tuesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Bring your favorite covered dish and come out to find out about the Campbell Folk School.

Democratic Party Picnic

The Clay County Democratic Party will be having a picnic on Friday, June 22 at theClay County Recreation Park. Bring your favorite covered dish and join us. Music in the Park

"GRAND OLD GOSPEL SHOWCASE"

An awesome lineup of Gospel and Country Songs await you at this Saturday's Concert on the Square in Hiawassee from 6 - 8 p.m.!

Joan Whitaker has gathered together a showcase of Gospel talent. Joan will perform several numbers herself and it will be evident to all that she puts her heart and soul into her joyful singing. She is powerful and uplifting.

Emily Carey, 11 years old, will show the audience what young talent can bring to Gospel.... don't miss it !

The Flowers Family, who performed for us last year, as well as the fabulous Hogsed Boys (also performed last year with the Fiddlin Dills Sisters) will round out the evening.

As an added "treat" to the evening's festivities, Zyke Turner , from Athens, Georgia will grace the square with his terrific Gospel repertoire.

Bring your folding chair or blanket, your pet (on a leash, please and with "cleanup equipment") and your friends and family to enjoy a wonderful evening on the Hiawassee Square.

As always there will be icecream, hot-dogs and "Concerton the-Square T-shirts for sale and support for the OTM!

Enchanted Music on the Square is produced by the OTM Committee, Inc., a nonprofit group dedicated to bringing music, entertainment and events to Towns County. Come join the fun ! In conjunction with OTM.
