Special Olympics
Special Olympians representing Cherokee County traveled to Raleigh for the summer games, and brought home the gold. Laura Hays won the gold medal in swimming for the fifty-meter front stroke and backstroke. She is the first one from Cherokee County to have done this. Riva Callum and David Gardner won the gold medal in swimming for the 25-meter front and backstroke. Michael Adams and Wanda Coggins brought home the gold in Volleyball Skills. Not pictured, Nathan Brown. Nathan won the bronze medal in Volleyball Skills.
