Local author writes thrilling new novel
Dennis Ackison, a Robbinsville, N.C. resident, has recently finished a thrilling new novel entitled, "Murder at Fontana Dam." The novel is built around an even that happened dring World War II that very few people know about. Six rubber rafts, with men dressed as soldiers landed on a beach in Florida during the war. They were Americans, living in Germany at the time, loyal to Hitler and transported here to fight for the Nazi cause. A young soldier, on guard duty attmpted to place them under arrest. However, they informed him that they were conducting war games in the area, reached into one of their brief cases, handed the soldier a couple of hundred dollar bills, and went on their way. Guns and explosives were later found buried up on the beach, but there was no sign of the men. The incident was known as the "Florida Connection."
In the novel , three members of this group end up in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, where America is building a giant dam that will play an important role in the outcome of the war. The mission of the "Florida Connection" is simple: blow up Fontana Dam to keep it from sending electricity across the mountain to a place called Oak Ridge, TN.
