YHC cross-country signs three HHS athletes
MARCUS KEELY Sentinel Writer

The finish line seems even closer now, though it's really just the start. The hard work and dedication of three Hayesville High School seniors finally payed off Wednesday, June 7 when they signed on the dotted line. Stella Snowden, Levi Gentle, and Ryan Gentle each accepted athletic scholarships to run cross country next year at Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia. The cross country program at YHC, only in its second year of existence, will greatly benefit from the talents of these three scholar athletes.

Coach Barry Brown and Assistant Coach Jenny Ledford (a Hayesville High School graduate) were on-hand at the signing ceremony. Coach Brown, whose wife is the women's soccer coach at Young Harris, is looking forward to strengthening the cross country program with the addition of strong runners like Snowden and the Gentle brothers. Last year, the team competed against twoyear and fouryear schools across the southeastern United States, sometimes as far away as Florida.

Though it is only a two-year college, Young Harris College provides a solid education for its students. Both of the Gentle brothers plan on going into the engineering field. Levi's future plans are to major in biomedical engineering, whereas Ryan looks to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering. When asked what she wanted to major in, Stella stated that she was undecided.
