Free Diabetes classes offered

Every Wednesday between 4 and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions and meters with you. Family members are also welcome. The Diabetes Support Group and Educational Sessions will start again Wednesday, July 11 at 4 p.m.

Free WRAP classes

Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life.

WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness.

Library Book Store

We're ready for spring with a new coat of paint and hundreds of donations! Save $$$ on all your favorite books (and records too!) and help support Moss Memorial Library. Located across from the library in Hayesville Monday 12:30 - 4 p.m., Tues - Sat 10 - 4 p.m.

Hidden Treasures

The Friends of the Moss Memorial Library's Thrift Store is now open in it's new location, across from the library and next door to the used bookstore. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours. Call Susan Kaagan at 389-3325 to arrange for pickup of larger items.

Moose Lodge

We are now forming a Moose Lodge and invite you to join us. Our meetings are held at Homers CornerCafe located at Hwy 19/129 in Murphy, NC inside Fosters Flea Market. Annual Farm Acreage Reports

The Cherokee/Clay/ Graham Counties Farm Service Agencies requires all farm owners/ operators to report acreage annually before June 30th, even if the land is idle or grass. Please visit the Farm Service Office at 225 Valley River Ave. in the 409 Building in Suite J, Murphy. Intermediate Bridge

Hearing Loss Services Offered

Judith Pittillo, Hard of Hearing Services specialist with the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing, Asheville Regional Center, will be at the Clay County Senior Center in Hayesville on Tuesday, July 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Ms. Pittillo will be available to assist persons with hearing loss and communication issues. She will also have information regarding assistive devices, programs and applications for services. Space is limited, so please call the senior center at (828) 389-9271 aqnd schedule your appointment before June 27.

Quilting Ministry

Truett Memorial First Baptist Quilting Ministry meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 10 a.m., downstairs in the church office building. All are welcome to join in fellowship as we make lap, fidget and infant quilts for those in need. For information contact Linda Davis at (828) 389-4233 or lulu111@verizon.net.

Talent Night at the Square

"The Singing Stars For a Better World," a precious group of children ages 5-10 years old, will warm everyone's heart with their classic Broadway hits and positive messages about life! They are a treat, and not to be missed!

Last year's Towns Co. Idol winners and favorites, Heather Poole, Palmer Dernehl and Danny Patterson, will perform solo numbers to showcase their wonderful voices.

Rounding out the evening are Sheila Reed and the Reed Family, featuring young talent in the best country and gospel venue. So bring your lawn chair or blanket, your family and friends, and even the family pet is welcome (if accompanied on a leash and with a "pooper-scooper" for cleanup!) There will be ice cream, hot dogs and beverages for sale, along with Concert-onthe Square t-shirts. Call (706) 896-4988 after 2 p.m. to see if weather threatens to cancel the show.

Ooops.......please note corrections to posters and rack cards: the July 14 concert (mistakenly ommitted!) will be Tony Ford and also the Gnarly Fingers Band.

August 19 should be listed as August 18 and August 26 listed as August 25. Watch for corrected posters and rack card schedules in a week or so!

Handbell Concert

JuBELLation will be in concert Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free admission and no reservations are required. The Junior handbell choir is from Portland, OR. The concert will be at St. William Catholic Church, 765 Andrews Rd., Murphy, and is sponsored by MAPAA & Brasstown Ringers. For more information call (828) 837- 8822.

Tusquittee Dinner

The Tusquittee Community Dinner will be on Tuesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Bring your favorite covered dish and come out to find out about the Campbell Folk School.

Democratic Party Picnic

The Clay County Democratic Party will be having a picnic on Friday, June 22 at theClay County Recreation Park. Bring your favorite covered dish and join us. Wounded Warrior Fundraiser

The Wounded Warrior Project was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation's greatest citizens. The WWP seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations. Many of the injuries are traumatic amputation, gunshot wounds, burns and other injuries that will retire these warriors from military service.

The Blairsville Bikes and Boards Skateboarding Team and The Soup Mafia, would like to help better the homecoming of our brave soldiers by collecting donations and raffling prizes. 100 percent of proceeds benefit the WWP. Please help us support those who sacrifice so much for us.

Make a bronze ($5), silver ($10), gold ($20) or platinum ($50) donation where your name or business will be listed on a special thank you banner that will hang at Mountain High Skate Park in Hayesville, NC, OR you may purchase a $1 raffle ticket for a variety of outstanding prizes. Then join us on Thursday, June 21 at 4 p.m., for National Go Skateboarding Day at Mountain High Skate Park where we will raffle prizes, eat, have a best trick contest and total our earnings. Victoria Center Cruise-In

Victoria's Antique Mall located at 2386 Young Harris Highway (on hwy 76 next to the old movie theater and bowling alley) in Blairsville, GA, is having a Cruise-In June 30, 2007, rain or shine. Free registration is from 10 a.m. to Noon with trophies awarded at 4 p.m. There will be door prizes for registered participants, music provided by a local broadcasting DJ and parking on pavement and grass. Spectator parking is next to the mall at the old movie theater/bowling alley lot.

While you are at the show you can browse one of North Georgia's largest multi-dealer malls with 25,000 square feet of vendor space. There you will find collectibles, furniture, art, jewelry, books and much more, plus Madison's Christmas Cabin. If you get hungry Victoria's Bake Shop and Deli will be open for a light breakfast and lunch serving a variety of tasty treats.

VFW Dinner

VFW Post 6812 will hold its quarterly dinner at the Senior Center on Ritter Road at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 28. The post will furnish the meat and potatoes. Covered dishes are welcomed. All members, families and guests, active duty, military on leave and their loved ones come by and enjoy.

Baseball Camp
