Raven Welch Band to perform Saturday in Brasstown
Only 15 years old, Raven Welch is the real deal. She had her first solo in a vacation Bible school program at the age of 5. By the time she was 12, she was performing in community theater. Now she has her own band. A band that includes some serious bluegrass musicians. Rhett Davis, who sings bass and plays bass and guitar, is a former member of The Blue Valley Boys and Abigail Moore and HWY 129. Joe Coffey sings baritone and plays banjo. He started playing banjo at the age of 12, and has played with many bands over the years, including The Bluegrass Travelers and Abigail Moore and HWY 129. Terry Collis plays guitar and rounds out the vocals by singing low tenor. He is also one of the original members of The Bluegrass Travelers. Raven plays mandolin and sings the high lead. Performing bluegrass and bluegrass gospel, this is one band you don't want to miss. The Raven Welch Band is a newly formed bluegrass band with one of the best young singers anywhere backed by a well seasoned band. Raven's popularity grows with every show and her fan base is spreading through GA, Tenn, NC, Ala, and Miss. She humbly gives God the glory for her talent and thanks Him daily for His grace. Raven is from McCaysville, Ga. She began singing in church and developed her voice in the community theatre. Her musical background began with the piano and her dad had played banjo and guitar. But she was sold on bluegrass music when she saw Rhonda Vincent in concert. A mandolin was soon purchased and she began singing with local bands. She was very much in demand so she decided it was time to form her own band. Rhett Dennis had filled in as her bass player for the last two years and was glad to step in as soon as she formed her own band. Originally from Ala., he is a former member of the Blue Valley Boys and joined Abigail Moore and Hwy 129 after moving to Nantahala, NC. Joe Coffee has been a welcome member to The Raven Welch Band. Joe is a very technical banjo player and sings baritone. He is also the band's singing coach. He is a UT grad and began playing at a very young age. Joe has recently played with The Bluegrass Travelers and Abigail Moore and Hwy 129. He is a resident of Powder Springs, Ga. Terry is the newest member of the band and has provided solid guitar and much-needed low tenor. He is an original member of the Bluegrass Travelers and also plays and sings in his church. Terry lives in Ranger, GA. with his lovely wife, Trish, of 36 years. They have two sons and two wonderful grandchildren, Josh and Kaylee.
