Why we can't help but question
By Sherrie Keely

Like any of you, "why" is one of my favorite words. It's gotten me into more situations than I sometimes want to recall. I remember as a child wanting to know how things were held together.

Once, I carefully proceeded to unscrew my mother's bed. Upon putting it back together again, minus a screw or two, I decided it looked great, or at least until midnight, when a piercing crash echoed throughout our modest home.

When I wanted to know how things worked, my father's reel-to-reel tape recorder was just the thing to explore. It proved a bit harder to reassemble. Need I say what ensued?

Let's face it, enquiring minds want to know: why? I learned from reading God's Word that our sinful acts and generational sins can cause many of the problems and fears we have today. But I still don't understand why a childhood friend is going through chemotherapy, or a beloved Clay County high school coach is facing cancer.

Could God be using these things to teach us that life is a fragile gift or that we must express our gratitude and love to others while they're here? God says His ways are higher than our ways and that all things work together for good for His children. I thank God that when we're all finally face to face with Him, we shall understand all things.

So, for all you faith-walkers, who can't understand us "'Why'-Christians," it might just be that we're teachers at heart, wanting to understand the ins-and-outs of God's ways.

Let's face it, we can't help but question "why." We're made in His image. Note Matthew 8:26- "Why are you fearful?" Matthew 19:17- "Why callest thou me good?" Matthew 21:25- "Why did you not believe?"
