Summer a Great Time to Enroll in Hunter Education

Hunting seasons may be months away, but summer is an ideal time to enroll in a Hunter Education Course.

Whether for basic instruction required to obtain that first hunting license, or to update skills for a long-time hunter, taking a Hunter Education Course in the summertime is easy.

"For many people, the summer months provide more time and opportunity," said Travis Casper, a hunter education specialist with N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. "Students are out of school and there may not be as many extracurricular demands on families. And it's better than waiting until the last minute in the fall."

Hunter Education courses are offered free by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission throughout the state. More than a gun safety course, the course includes information about hunter ethics and responsibility, conservation and game management, firearms, wildlife identification, survival and first aid, and specialty hunting.

In North Carolina, state law requires all first-time hunting license buyers to have successfully completed a hunter education course.

For Hunter Education course schedules, game regulations and additional information, visit www.ncwildlife.org, or call (919) 707-0031.
