A Garden Shed or Home Office?

Imagine sealing a deal in Boston while wearing pajamas in a 'garden shed' in California. It's not that strange. Telecommuting has come of age. Offices are getting smaller as people are seeing the sense in working from home.

Consider Nancy, part of a growing trend of people with an office on their property but not in the house. She does most of her work by phone and online, so her location in California is inconsequential to her clients. Still, location meant a lot to her. Walking 10 feet from her house to her office allows Nancy to forget the dishes cluttering the sink and any unwashed laundry. Voila! The switch from home to office is complete.

She and her husband ordered a customized Urban Studio kit from Summerwood Products which they assembled themselves. Summerwood creates many structures: gazebos, pool houses, garages, cabins, spa enclosures, playhouses and of course urban studios. Most have multiple uses, appearing in several categories. In fact, Nancy's Sonoma is listed under 'garden sheds' on Summerwood.com but that description sells it short. It's beautiful, constructed from rich cedar and customized with plenty of hinged windows and a glass door.

How? The site's Custom Design Center features simple and fun software, giving laypeople an architect's skills so they can add their own personal touches. Nancy loves the natural light and breezes on pleasant days - leading to greater productivity.

Summerwood's designs come in easy-to-assemble kits, delivered to your driveway. Those less in touch with their inner handyman are completely supported with online how-to videos, regular 9 to 5 live phone assistance - and an online ask an expert section for finding quick answers.
