Festival on the Square to kick off July 14

A visitor admires the gourd display at the 2006 Festival on the Square. The 2007 Festival on the Square will begin July 14 and run through July 15.
Get ready for some fun. The Festival on the Square, hosted by the Clay County Historical and Arts Council, is Saturday, July 14, 10 to 5, and Sunday, July 15, 10 to 4. The kick-off begins with a street dance around the Hayesville Square on Friday, July 13 at 7 p.m..

The weekend offers loads of fun with 75 vendors showing their handmade arts and crafts, continuous entertainment and finger-lickin' barbecue chicken dinners or pork sandwich dinners complete with beans, slaw and fresh-sliced tomatoes. Hot dogs and drinks are available. It's free admission so bring your chair and stay awhile. No pets please!

Musicians Sam Walker, playing accoustical guitar and banjo, "The Dowden Sisters," and "Chuck and Peggy Patrick" will perform Appalachian string music to get fingers snappin' on Saturday. Kicking high and dancing away are the "Paris Highlanders," "John C. Campbell Folk School Cloggers," and "The Sweetheart Cloggers."

Don't miss Sunday's bands, "Gnarly Fingers" at 1, "Butternut Creek" at 2, and "Trees Leave" at 3. Mark your calendars for this terrific "funraising" event! Support your local Arts Council and enjoy yourselves!
