Miller elected new Rotary President
RAINER ARNOLD Contributing Writer

Matt Miller of Hiawassee was installed as the 2007-2008 President of the Lake Chatuge-Hiawassee Rotary Club.
On June 26th Matt Miller of Hiawassee was installed as the 2007-08 President of the Lake Chatuge-Hiawassee Rotary Club at a luncheon held in the President's Dining Room at YHC. Outgoing President, Candace Lee, presided over the event which included handing out the Citizen of the Year Award for Clay and Towns County as well as the prestigious Rotarian of the Year Award.

Lee introduced the Towns recipient of the Citizen of the Year, Amy Gibby-Rosser. Lee gave some background on Gibby-Rosser as she is the Coordinator of the Towns County Family Connection and has been since its inception in 1999. She is married and is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Bob Gibby of Young Harris. She graduated from TCHS and UGA.

Amy is very active in the community and has implemented some very beneficial programs in Towns such as Towns County Mentor Program, Towns Prevention Program, Interagency Council, Health Fair, Thanksgiving & Christmas Committee and the Taste of Southern Highlands to mention just a few of the things Gibby-Rosser is doing for this community.

Clay County citizen of the year was Marjorie Weathers
Cameron Forrest was selected by the Rotary Club as being the most deserving Rotarian for the award. According to Lee, Cameron is always there to help and never expecting anything in return. This award was especially sweet for Lee since she was the person who sponsored Forrest in 2002 to become a Rotarian. Forrest has been an officer in the club for years and this year stepped it up a notch as he headed the Golf Tournament fundraiser for the Lake Chatuge Rotary Club in a very successful manner.

Clay County Citizen of the year was Marjorie Weathers and she was introduced by Rotarian Dave Larson. According to Larson, Weathers is a truly deserving woman who was born in Augusta, Georgia. While visiting her fiance', Cliff, while he was attending YHC she fell in love with this area. Later she married Cliff who was an Army Chaplain and moved around a lot. After the military she and her husband returned to this area and they settled in Hayesville. She wrote for the Smokey Mountain Sentinel and other media outlets and won numerous awards for fiction writing. She later became an active member of the newly formed Clay county Communities Revitalization Association (CCCRA). Now that the CCCRA is almost 10 years old it needs to be pointed out that Marjorie was deeply involved in the agencies success. She has had a helping hand in many of the projects which include rescuing the courthouse, revitalization of the downtown area, playground equipment, partnering with the locals schools, the Southern Appalachian Biking Association and many other projects.
